STAGE 1: SEATED

Consult the "seated stage" notes in posture 1 regarding sitting / chairs.

This is an exercise you can only do seated if using a stool.

Hold the wand behind the body horizontally, with the palms facing forward, hands lightly grasping the ends of the wand (thumbs over the top of the shaft, fingers underneath; fingers and thumbs face outward). The arms should be straight and extended, the shaft of the wand should be touching the rear of the body.

TURN LEFT

Inhale

As you turn the trunk to the left, simultaneously raise the right tip of the wand, keeping the shaft close to, or preferably touching the back. The wand travels up the rear of the back to a vertical position behind the right side of the head.

Exhale

Then as you face directly left, push the right tip of the wand as far to the left as you can comfortably. All this time the right hand remains at arms length by the rear of the of the right thigh.

Inhale

Turn the torso back to face the front and lower left arm back across the left behind the head and down to the beginning position, horizontal, the wand at arms length behind the body.

Exhale

As you turn the trunk to the left simultaneously lift the right tip of the wand, keeping the left arm where it is. The right arm travels up the rear of the back to a vertical position behind the left side of the head, then as you face directly left push the right tip of the wand as far to the left as you can comfortably. All this time the left hand has remained at arms length by the rear of the of the left thigh.

Inhale

Turn the torso back to face the front and lower right arm back across the right behind the head and down to the beginning position, horizontal, the wand at arms length behind the body.

Repeat several times.
