STAGE 1: SEATED

Hold the wand horizontally across the top of your thighs, hands holding the wand at each end.

RIGHT LEAD

Inhale

Raise the wand horizontally to the mid-chest region, keeping the wand close to the body. Raise the right arm to head height while keeping the left hand still.

Exhale

Loosen the fingers of the left hand and push the wand through them with your right hand. The right hand travels down diagonally to the left, the shaft of the wand going through the thumb and fingers of the left hand, so that the tip ends up close to the floor on the left side of the body. When the right hand reaches the lower left rib cage it stops pushing the wand.

Inhale

Keep the right hand, which holds the right tip of the wand, against the lower left ribs and use it as a pivot - loosening the right fingers. Lift the left hand (which is now grasping the the wand at the middle of the shaft) up in a circle around to the right, moving the left tip of the wand to the right of the body. When the left tip reaches directly overhead and is vertical:-

Exhale

Continue the journey of the left tip, moving it to the right until the wand is horizontal pointing to the right. The right hand is still attached to the lower left ribs.

Inhale

Move the left tip of the wand back in a counter-clockwise fashion with the left hand holding the wand in the "town" position, until the wand is vertical in front of the body again. Then:-

Exhale

Lower the tip of the wand back to the left as the right hand now moves back across the body to the right. Then you are back in the beginning position with the wand resting horizontally again on top of the thighs.

LEFT LEAD

Inhale

Raise the wand horizontally to the mid-chest region, keeping the wand close to the body. Raise the left arm to head height while keeping the right hand still.

Exhale

Loosen the fingers of the right hand and push the wand through them with your left hand. The left hand travels down diagonally to the right, the shaft of the wand going through the thumb and fingers of the right hand, so that the tip ends up close to the floor on the right side of the body. When the left hand reaches the lower right rib cage it stops pushing the wand:-

Inhale

Keep the left hand, which holds the left tip of the wand, against the lower right ribs and use it as a pivot - loosening the left fingers. Lift the right hand (which is now grasping the middle of the shaft of the wand) up in a circle around to the left, moving the right tip of the wand to the left of the body. When the right tip reaches directly overhead and is vertical:-

Exhale

Continue the journey of the right tip, moving it to the left until the wand is horizontal pointing to the left. The left hand is still attached to the lower right ribs.

Inhale

Move the right tip of the wand back in a counter-clockwise fashion with the right hand holding the wand in the "town" position, until the wand is vertical in front of the body again. Then:-

Exhale

Lower the tip of the wand back to the right as the left hand now moves back across the body to the left. Then you are back in the beginning position with the wand resting horizontally again on top of the thighs.

Repeat right and left leading postures alternately several times.

STAGE 3: STANDING WITH FOOTWORK

METHOD: "FRONT CROSS STEP" & "REAR STEP "

For more information on this footstep refer to "Front Cross Step" and on the footwork page.

APPLICATION

Applying the footwork to the posture:-

Stand with feet at shoulder width and parallel, toes facing directly forward. Legs should be straight with Knees slightly bent.

The torso movements and breathing sequence are different to the first 2 stages.

RIGHT LEAD

Inhale

Raise the wand horizontally to the mid-chest region, keeping the wand close to the body. Raise the right arm to head height while keeping the left hand still.

Exhale

Loosen the fingers of your left hand and push the wand through them with your right hand. The right hand travels diagonally to the left, the shaft of the wand going through the thumb and fingers of the left hand, towards the floor on the left side of the body. When the right hand reaches the lower left rib cage it stops pushing the wand. Keeping the right hand still - and using it as a pivot - lift the left hand (which is now grasping the middle of the shaft of the wand) up in a circle around to the right, moving the left tip of the wand to the right of the body. When the left tip reaches directly overhead and is vertical, move the right foot in front of the left toes and continue the journey of the left tip, moving it to the right until the wand is horizontal pointing to the right side.

Inhale

Move the left tip of the wand back in a counter-clockwise fashion with the left hand until the wand is vertical in front of the body again. Lower the tip of the wand back to the left as the right hand now moves back across the body to the right. Then you are back in the beginning position with the wand resting horizontally again on top of the thighs. Simultaneously move the right foot back to its beginning position (parallel and shoulder-width to the left foot).

Exhale

With the left hand, push the wand to the right, through the right fingers. Look to the right, following the right tip of the wand as you raise the right arm to the side of the body, the right hand sliding to the center of the wand's shaft as the right tip moves upward. Simultaneous move the left foot behind the right heel, landing with the ball. You finish with the right arm straight, supporting the wand, which is vertical to tje right side of the body, the left hand has moved to the right at groin level and finishes holding the left tip a little way to the right of the right hip.

Inhale

Reverse the above movement as you bring the wand back down to finish in front of the body while the left foot returns to the beginning position parallel to the right foot.

LEFT LEAD

Inhale

Raise the wand horizontally to the mid-chest region, keeping the wand close to the body. Raise the left arm to head height while keeping the right hand still.

Exhale

Loosen the fingers of your right hand and push the wand through them with your left hand. The left hand travels diagonally to the right, the shaft of the wand going through the thumb and fingers of the right hand, towards the floor on the right side of the body. When the left hand reaches the lower right rib cage it stops pushing the wand. Keeping the left hand still - and using it as a pivot - lift the right hand (which is now grasping the middle of the shaft of the wand) up in a circle around to the left, moving the right tip of the wand to the left of the body. When the right tip reaches directly overhead and is vertical, move the left foot in front of the right toes and continue the journey of the right tip, moving it to the left until the wand is horizontal pointing to the left side.

Inhale

Move the right tip of the wand back in a counter-clockwise fashion with the right hand until the wand is vertical in front of the body again. Lower the tip of the wand back to the right as the left hand now moves back across the body to the left. Then you are back in the beginning position with the wand resting horizontally again on top of the thighs. Simultaneously move the left foot back to its beginning position (parallel and shoulder-width to the right foot).

Exhale

With the right hand, push the wand to the left, through the left fingers. Look to the left, following the left tip of the wand as you raise the left arm to the side of the body, the left hand sliding to the center of the wand's shaft as the left tip moves upward. Simultaneous move the right foot behind the left heel, landing with the ball. You finish with the left arm straight, supporting the wand, which is vertical to the left side of the body, the right hand has moved to the left at groin level and finishes holding the right tip a little way to the left of the left hip.

Inhale

Reverse the above movement as you bring the wand back down to finish in front of the body while the right foot returns to the beginning position parallel to the left foot.
